That product you ordered online….

In our roles as individuals, there is plenty we can do in our everyday lives to protect the environment and fight climate change. This is what our project – Sustaincast – does, by offering information about environmental protection, practices, and knowledge that we can apply daily, and that we can share with others and inspire them to do the same!

The Sustaincast podcasts made by people like you and us across Europe are personal stories, experiences, inspirational practices and attitudes to bring us all on the same boat regarding the little and even not-so-little things we can do to fight climate change. While doing the Greek podcast episodes we came across a very interesting element, that usually escapes our attention when we are thinking on green practices in our everyday transportation and commuting habits. We all probably think of leaving the car at home, using buses or metro instead, walking or ‘bicycling’ our way around the city or the place we live; all of them practices that surely help to minimize pollution, when it comes to how we move ourselves from one point to the other.

But what about objects? And to be more concrete, what about the thousands or even millions of smaller or bigger packages of objects that we order online and expect them right at the door of our houses or offices? Aren’t they carried around until they reach us by tracks, cars, motorbikes? Is there something we could do to fight environmental pollution in this case? It seems that there is! While collaborating in our Transportation podcast, we came across an innovative service, that seeks to decrease the environmental impact of freight transportation, mostly by offering the opportunity to the online buyer and the courier services to merge shipments, integrating the mobility potential of courier companies, professional drivers (e.g. taxi drivers) etc. A service in the making that opens up a new area of transportation where much can be done on our side as online buyers! And all this is the subject of yet another EU funded project. You can find more information here, but most importantly, you can already start thinking that environmentally friendly practices in transportation in our everyday lives, involves much more than our own mobility practices as persons!
